Police have requested an autopsy in the weekend death of a Big Island fisherman.
South Hilo patrol officers say 37-year-old Ian Tengan of Hilo had been fishing along the rocky shoreline in an area known as “23 Flats” in Honomu around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, when he was hit by rough waves and disappeared under the surf.
Police officers and Fire Department personnel located him face down in the water and took Tengan to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 6:00 p.m.
