Big Island honors veterans

(Ken Hupp - KPUA) Today is the holiday observance for Veteran’s Day. But Hilo actually began honoring its men and women in uniform with Saturday’s annual veteran’s day parade. Among the participants was Kea`au’s Walter Hughes, who flew 35 missions during World War II as a B-24 bomber pilot and marched in the parade.

“I think that all citizens owe their country service, and I honor all of them,” Hughes said.
“I think that leadership has sometimes been less than what we would like it to be, but the veterans are good.”

A number of closures are in effect today with county, state, and federal offices closed, as are schools, banks, and courthouses. The Hele On Bus is operating on its holiday schedule, with service from Hilo, Pahala and North Kohala to the South Kohala Resorts. Content for this story was provided by Big Island Video News.
