KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — Police are still searching for one of two inmates who escaped from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on the Big Island.
Hawaii County Police say officials believe Ryan James Jeffries-Hamar may have made his way to the western side of the island.
Capt. Chad Basque says that 31-year-old Jeffries-Hamar has ties to the Kona area.
Jeffries-Hamar escaped Wednesday with 35-year-old Jarvis Naoki Higa, who was recaptured on Friday in Oceanview, Kau.
Higa is awaiting trial for attempted murder and is now facing kidnapping, assault and other charges related to the escape.
Jeffries-Hamar was in for a parole violation and a previous escape from a minimum security facility in August.
