The man who died in a two vehicle crash on Queen Kaahumanu Highway Wednesday has been identified as 52-year old Matthew B. Lee of Kailua-Kona. Police say Lees Ford F-250 pickup truck loaded with several empty propane gas tanks was headed south when it crossed the centerline between the 71 and 72-mile markers and sideswiped a Dodge Dart sedan driven by a 62-year old male visitor from Canada, and struck an embankment on the north-bound shoulder around 11:30 a.m.
Lee was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kona Community Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle and his three passengers escaped injury. The Big Islands traffic death toll for 2014 now stands at four, compared to seven at this time last year.
