A Monday morning fire did $150,000 damage and destroyed the kitchen at Banjy’s Paradise Bar and Grill on Melia Street in Waikoloa Village. Fire units arrived on scene shortly before 6:30 a.m. to find heavy smoke from a small fire in the kitchen area spreading to the walls and into the ceiling.
Firefighters entered through the front door of the locked establishment, opened the roof ventilation and extinguished the flames before they could spread beyond the kitchen.
The cause is under investigation.
