Inouye successor could be named today

(KPUA - Ken Hupp) Governor Neil Abercrombie could announce who will succeed the late Hawai`i U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye as early as today. The Hawai`i Democratic Party’s State Central Committee meets today to come up with a list of three names and forward them to the Governor, who will make the final choice.

Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa, Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz, former Congressman Ed Case, Congresswoman-elect Tulsi Gabbard and Abercrombie’s Deputy Chief of Staff Blake Oshiro are among the fourteen candidates who are seeking to succeed Inouye, who died a week ago Monday from respiratory complications at the age of 88.

Inouye, sent Abercrombie a letter shortly before his death saying he wanted Hanabusa to be chosen as his replacement.
