HONOLULU (AP) — A 48-year-old Haiku man has died after free diving in the waters near Kanaha Beach Park. 

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports the man failed to return while diving with friends Saturday afternoon. 

The newspaper says when the friends called for help, officers on personal watercraft found the man submerged on the floor of the ocean. He was still tethered to his diving buoy. 

The man, who has not been named, was taken in a hospital where he later died.
