HILO, Hawaii (AP) A man wanted by police in connection with a carjacking that caused two traffic accidents has been taken into custody. Police say 31-year-old Jeremy Todd Rios walked out of a pasture around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday onto Mauna Kea Access Road, where an officer running a checkpoint arrested him. Authorities say he will be held at the Hilo Police cellblock, while detectives continue their investigation.
Rios is accused of starting a crime spree in Hilo earlier in the day when police saw him flash a firearm from a Black Honda. Police say he then sped off and broadsided a pickup, got out of the car and allegedly stole a white Honda from a woman stopped in traffic. Authorities say he drove off in the white Honda after hitting another vehicle.
The woman wasn't injured.
