Police identify pedestrian victim

(Ken Hupp - KPUA) Police have identified the woman found dead along Highway 11 in South Kona Tuesday as 30-year old Jasmin K. Robertson of Honaunau. Traffic investigators say the victim, who appeared to be intoxicated, had been sitting on the northbound lane of the highway near the 107-mile marker when she was struck around 6:30 p.m. by a northbound BMW sedan operated by a 50-year old Captain Cook man.

Fire rescue personnel took Robertson to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.

The Big Island’s traffic death toll for 2012 now stands at 36, compared to 18 at this time last year.
It is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or drugs were involved on part of the driver but the woman had been drinking. Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call Officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, extension 229.
