Police step up traffic enforcement for Halloween

(Ken Hupp - KPUA) Police are increasing DUI checkpoints and roving patrols this week in conjunction with Halloween. The effort is part of a national and statewide campaign called “Drive sober or get pulled over.”

Sergeant Robert P. Pauole of the Traffic Services Section said that drugs, alcohol or both have been factors in at least 63 percent of the island’s 35 traffic fatalities recorded this year. Pauole said anyone planning on consuming alcohol should make arrangements beforehand with a designated, sober and licensed driver.

And if one is not available, take a cab.
