Solomon/Inouye meet in Senate rematch

The Democratic primary race in the Big Islands fourth senatorial district will be a rematch of the 2012 race that saw incumbent Malama Solomon edge former senator and mayor Lorraine Inouye by 69 votes.
Besides their contrasting styles, the two differ on some major issues such as the Public Land Development Corporation, which Inouye opposed and Solomon supported and protection of whales and green sea turtles, which Inouye wants left on the endangered species list.
Both however, support a national labeling policy on genetically modified organisms and say geothermal energy is a good way to lower energy-related costs on the island as long as its safe and clean.
The winner of the August 9 primary will face Libertarian Alain Schiller in the general election.
