Police say Hilo’s Waiakea Houselots area has seen a rise in burglaries since May. Burglars have been entering homes through windows to steal jewelry and other items.
Police are urging residents to lock all their doors and windows when they leave in order to reduce the risk of their home being robbed.
Police plan to send pre-recorded phone notifications to area residents using the County Civil Defense Agency’s automated telephone system to warn them about the burglaries and are also offering free home security inspections.
Anyone with any information about the burglaries is asked to call Detective James Correa at 961-2289 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311
