Hawaii Gov. Abercrombie says he may veto 9 bills

HONOLULU (AP) Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie is notifying the lawmakers that he may veto nine bills they sent to him for his signature.

The bills include one that would make feeding feral birds a nuisance and another that would amend nursing advisory board membership.

Another on the veto list would provide for a nonpartisan primary as well as a general election for Office of Hawaiian Affairs board members. Currently, there's no primary election for OHA board members, only a general election.

The governor has until July 9 to veto bills or they will become law without his signature.

Abercrombie's office said Monday most of the bills on his list are objectionable because of concerns raised during hearing testimony.

The governor has signed more than 172 measures into law so far.
