Hawaii acquires supply of TB testing solution

HONOLULU (AP) The Hawaii Department of Health says the availability of tuberculosis testing solution is returning to normal.

Health department clinics statewide will resume providing tuberculin skin tests on Monday.

A national shortage of the testing solution prompted the state to issue a temporary suspension of TB clearance requirements. The health department says it has acquired an adequate supply of the testing solution.

The suspension expires Aug. 9 and the state requirements will resume.

Tuberculosis clearance is mandated for school personnel, students and food handlers, along with workers in health care, domiciliary care, daycare and residential care facilities.

Acting TB Control Branch Chief Dr. Elizabeth MacNeill says there will likely be a high demand for testing, especially with the new school year approaching.
