Two charged in weekend road rage



Two Hilo man have been arrested and charged in a Saturday road rage incident in which they allegedly tried to run two acquaintances in a pickup truck off the road and threatened one of them with a handgun twice. 
 
South Hilo patrol officers were summoned to a home on Laula Road where they learned that an initial confrontation occurred on Kilauea Avenue south of Kawailani Street, followed by a second incident on Haihai Street at the intersection of Laula Road. 
 
On Monday, police arrested the driver, identified as 25-year old Hiram Kawelu III and his 34-year old passenger Albert Espaniola Jr. Kawelu was charged with reckless endangering, promoting a dangerous drug, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving, while Espaniola was charged with two counts of terroristic threatening. The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old Pepe`ekeo man, and his passenger, a 25-year-old Hilo man were not injured during the encounter.
