Big Island rattled by Sunday morning earthquakes



(KPUA) Big Island residents were awakened early Sunday by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake followed by several aftershocks. The quake occurred at 5:54 a.m., 5 miles south of the summit of Kilauea Volcano below the Kulanaokuaiki campground at a depth of about 20 miles. 
 
The largest of the aftershocks measured 3.4 and occurred at 6:06 a.m. The activity generated no tsunami threat, but was felt throughout Hawai`i Island as well as on Maui and O`ahu.
