Duo charged in police assault to appear in court today

(KPUA) A Puna man and his son charged in a Saturday night disturbance at a Hawaiian Beaches park in Pahoa, where a police officer was injured, make their initial court appearance today.

Police say 48-year old Christopher Thomas Gonsalves of Pahoa struck and threatened an officer before escaping, with the help of 21-year-old Gordon A.E. Gonsalves, who used force against another officer.

Both men were arrested Sunday and taken to the Hilo police cellblock where Christopher Gonsalves was charged Tuesday with terroristic threatening, assaulting a police officer and abuse of a family-household member, while his son was charged with hindering prosecution.
