HILO, Hawaii (AP) A woman arrested following the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend near Hilo was freed from jail Friday night while police investigate the apparent domestic dispute at their home.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports that police released 27-year-old Manaolanalani "Lana" Lina Benford after conferring with prosecutors.
Police say Benford called 911 to report the incident Wednesday night. Officers found 42-year-old Shane Kanoa Ah Chock Campbell with fatal stab wounds.
Benford was arrested and her children taken into protective custody.
Campbell had a history of domestic violence. Court records show he was the subject of seven petitions for temporary restraining orders dating back to 1991. He had 25 convictions against him, including five for domestic abuse.
In a petition a former girlfriend described Campbell as verbally, physically and mentally abusive.
