Stabbing suspect had escaped from mental hospital

HILO, Hawaii (AP) State mental health officials say a 34-year-old man suspected of a fatal Mountain View stabbing had escaped in 2009 from Hawaii State Hospital on Oahu.

Adult mental health chief Dr. Mark Fridovich says Mark True Seal scaled a fence at the Kaneohe facility and has been sought for four years.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports Seal more than a decade ago had been charged with kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of an 8-year-old Maui girl.

He was acquitted in April 2002 by reason of insanity and committed to the mental hospital.

Police in Hilo are holding Seal on suspicion of second-degree murder. He has not been charged.

Police say he is suspected of fatally stabbing 32-year-old Rory Thompson Wick, who was found Tuesday on a street in Eden Roc Subdivision.
