HILO, Hawaii (AP) A woman convicted of robbing a Hilo clothing store has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. The Hawaii Tribune Herald reports Tia Nohealani Menino pleaded guilty in October to robbing the Rainbow-Jo women's clothing boutique and Tiny Bubbles baby clothing boutique at gunpoint last January. A store clerk told police Menino brandished a gun while taking money from the cash registers of the stores that share space in downtown Hilo. She also demanded money from the clerk's purse. The clerk took a cellphone photo of the pickup Menino drove and identified her in a photo lineup. Court documents said Menino told police she "just did something stupid" because she owed money to her boyfriend. Menino apologized Monday at the sentencing hearing.
