Pharmacy building is Governors top priority

A building for the University of Hawai`i at Hilos Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy tops the list of Governor Neil Abercrombies capital improvement priorities for next year.

Pharmacy officials and students seeking $38 million for the building last legislative session said the schools accreditation was at risk due to a lack of adequate facilities which has left operations scattered among eight different locations on campus.

UH Hilo Chancellor Don Straney said the school needs to deal with the accreditation issue this year to retain its ability to grant degrees. He said UH-Hilo is not requesting any additional funds for operations next fiscal year, and is only seeking the reduced request of $28 million in bonds for the pharmacy building.
