(KPUA) There is an upside to the recent rains that have drenched various sections of Hawai`i Island. The Department of Water Supply says the increased rainfall has enabled it to downgrade the previous Water Restriction for the Waimea and South Kohala areas to a Water Conservation Notice. The change in designation means residents go from a mandatory 25-percent cut in consumption to a voluntary 10-percent reduction.
There are various steps you can take to reduce consumption such as washing only full loads of laundry or dishes, checking faucets and pipes for leaks, and refraining from lawn sprinkling, car and boat washing and dust control watering. All agricultural users are being urged to keep water usage to a minimum by limiting irrigation to between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
