Man charged in vehicle assault
(KPUA) A 52-year old homeless man has been charged with nine offenses for allegedly banging into a Hilo man twice with a sports utility vehicle in the parking lot of a commercial and residential complex on Hualani Street around 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
Police say the 49-year old victim suffered serious and substantial bodily injury and had to be transferred to Queens Medical Center on O`ahu, where he remained until February 25th.
52-year old Clifford Marler, who frequents the Hilo area was arrested that evening on two bench warrants for contempt of court. He was charged on Wednesday with various offenses including unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering, leaving the scene of an accident involving substantial bodily injury, failure to render aid, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, after police found him in possession of a syringe loaded with a substance believed to be heroin.
