Man charged with contractor fraud

(KPUA) A 37-year old Hilo man has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly posing as a licensed contractor on two separate occasions in September and November of 2012.

Police say Ricky Mesa presented himself as a licensed contractor to do electrical, plumbing and drywall work for a Hilo couple and later received more than $30,000 to install a photovoltaic system for a 69-year-old Pahoa man, but never completed the work.

Mesa has been charged with first-degree theft and two felony counts of unlicensed contractor fraud.
