(KPUA) A former Hilo woman has been sentenced to life plus 25 years in prison for the murder of her 4-year-old son in Oregon, which prosecutors say was motivated by her belief that the boy was gay. Washington County Circuit Judge Don Letourneau imposed the sentence Friday on 25-year old Jessica Analani Dutro, in the death of Zachary Dutro-Boggess who died from complications of blunt force abdominal injuries.
The Oregonian newspaper reported that Dutro-Boggess was transported to a hospital August 14, 2012, after he collapsed at a homeless shelter in Tigard, Oregon, where he was living with his three siblings and his mothers boyfriend. He suffered from traumatic tears in his bowel and was removed from life support two days later.
As part of a plea agreement, Dutro's boyfriend, Brian Canady, convicted of manslaughter by abuse and second-degree assault, was sentenced to 150 months in prison and three years of post-prison supervision.
