Fire burns 12 acres in Punalu`u

(KPUA) A brushfire burned about 12 acres Tuesday at the southern end of Punalu`u Beach. The fire broke out shortly before 6:00 p.m. on vacant land near the ocean consisting of brush and various trees.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by brisk northeasterly winds up to 35 miles per hour, but units were able to get the fire under control just after 8:00 p.m.

A watch crew spent the night on scene to extinguish any hot spots and ensure the fire posed no risk to the nearby Colony One Condominiums. The cause is unknown.
