Click It or Ticket begins today

(KPUA) Big Island police are stepping up their island-wide enforcement of seat belt and child restraint laws as part of the National Click It or Ticket campaign that begins today and runs through June 1.
Under the new law, which took effect last May 20th, the driver of a vehicle that is pulled over will be cited if any passenger in the front or back is not using a seat belt, car seat, or booster seat.
National statistics have shown that the use of seat belts is the single most effective step drivers and passengers can take to protect them selves in the event of a traffic accident.
Police officers and volunteers will be sign waving along Bayfront Highway from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to bring awareness to the current campaign.
