(KPUA) Waiakea graduate Kodi Medeiros is expected to sign a contract today with the Milwaukee Brewers, who last week made the left-handed pitcher the 12th overall pick in this years Major League Baseball draft.
Medeiros signing bonus is expected to be in the $2 million range, but fall short of the $2.95 million record for a Hawaii player that Punahou alumnus Justin Wayne received from the Montreal Expos, who picked him 5th overall in the 2005 draft.
Fellow Big Island product Kolten Wong received a $1.3 million signing bonus in 2011 as the No. 22 overall pick of the St. Louis Cardinals. Medeiros is the highest draft pick ever selected straight out of Hawaii high school. He's the seventh first-round pick from Hawaii total, joining Wayne, Wong, David Masters, Mike Fetters, Bronson Sardinha and Jerome Williams.
