(KPUA) The state and University of Hawai`i Professional Assembly have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for approximately 4,000 UH faculty members and lecturers across the 10-campus UH system.
The agreement replaces the existing contract that expires in a year and provides 4-percent annual pay raises for the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years at a cost of $32 million.
State lawmakers have balked at funding increases agreed to in the current six-year contract and have told the University in past years to pay for them with tuition revenue. But UH interim President David Lassner said if lawmakers fail to approve general funds for the agreement, the contract will not take effect.
An electronic ratification vote is being conducted through August 25, the first day of the fall semester.
