Governor signs bills in Hilo



(KPUA) Governor Neil Abercrombie has signed five Big Island-related measures into law in an act where the signing shared equal billing with the legislation. The ceremony took place Tuesday at the Hilo Yacht Club, marking the first time that the Governor had signed bills into law on Hawai`i Island. 

The measures included bills appropriating $750,000 for the Hilo based Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems to fund various initiatives including planning for a Laser Ground Communication Station, $200,000 to support the University of Hawaii at Hilos memorandum of agreement with the RISE 21st Century After School Program, and directs geothermal resources on Department of Hawaiian Home Lands be paid to DHHL.
