Police probe officer shooting
Police are investigating a non-fatal officer-involved shooting, shortly before noon Monday off Stainback Highway in Panaewa.
Officers responding to a reported domestic incident in a pink sports utility vehicle say the operator drove recklessly toward them, following a brief chase and three shots were fired toward the SUV. 38-year old Riley Asuncion of Pahoa fled into the bushes, but was arrested a short time later on suspicion of terroristic threatening and taken to Hilo Medical Center with an injury to his torso.
Police say the 30-year old female victim of the reported incident had exited the SUV before officers began following it, and was later found in Hilo.
