Tropical Depression Ela continues to weaken.

Here’s the latest from Hawaii County Civil Defense..

The National Weather Service had downgraded Tropical Storm Ela to a Tropical depression late yesterday afternoon and through the night the system continued to weaken. As of 5:00AM this morning, Ela was located approximately 405 miles east/northeast of Hilo and moving west/northwest at 9 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds were 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.

No watches or warnings are in effect however a high surf advisory has been issued for the east facing shores of all islands through 6:00AM on Sunday July 12th.

The community is reminded that hurricane season for Hawaii runs from June through November and everyone is encouraged to plan and prepare for all hazards that pose a threat to our community.

The Civil Defense Agency will be maintaining close communication with the National Weather Service and providing information updates as systems develop and with present any threat or concern for our community.
