Mandatory Evacuation and Mayor’s Emergency Rule #1

Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim has ordered the MANDATORY EVACUATION of all civilians from all of the area of Leilani Estates east of Pomaikai Street. Persons in violation of this order are subject to arrest and liability for any recovery costs associated with rescue operation in the mandatory evacuation area.

In addition, the Mayor has also issued Emergency Rule #1, which covers the area from Highway 137 to the ocean, from Four Corners to Kapoho Kai Road. Emergency Rule #1 restricts access to Kapoho Beach Lots, Vacationland, and Kapoho Farm Lots. Access to these areas will be limited to:

1. Verified owners of real property within the area or verified lessees of real property or structures in the area with a minimum of a six-month lease. NO GUESTS OR VISITORS WILL BE ALLOWED.

AND

2. County, State, or Federal governmental employees and verified governmental contractors, as well as employees and volunteers of non-governmental organizations working in response or recovery operations.
