Hawaii schools to close through April 30, 2020

Hawaii State Department of Education says public schools will remain closed through April 30, 2020.  Schools Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto released the information in a “Letter to Parents and Guardians” sent out Tuesday, March 24.   That is consistent with Governor Ige’s Emergency Proclamation issued Monday, May 23, 2020 that everyone in the state is on a “stay at home, work at home” order, through April 30.  There are exceptions, as detailed in the order.

There’s a summary of Gov. Ige’s comments in a previous story on this site, as well as a link to the Emergency Proclamation.

The State Department of Education COVID-19 updates may be found at the DOE web site.

Students are currently on an extended Spring Break that was scheduled to go through April 7, 2020.
