Trump considering ban on domestic travel

During the Wednesday, April 1 White House COVID-19 briefing, President Donald Trump said he is considering putting a temporary ban on some domestic travel, including airline flights and train travel, in order to stem the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

Trump said no decisions have been made, but he’s looking at possibly banning flights and train trips to or from hot spots.  He stressed the matter is under discussion, and there are many options.

On Tuesday, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, joined by Mayors Derek Kawakami of Kaua’i and Mike Victorino of Maui County, have asked Gov. Ige to join them in asking the President to ban non-essential travel.  Caldwell said Gov. Ige is reviewing the letter he prepared.

Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim said he will not sign the letter and does not think it’s right for the Big Island.
