COVID-19 worldwide now 1,740,000 with US more than 500K

COVID-19 continues its relentless spread throughout the world.  The Saturday morning Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard reveals that worldwide, there  are now nearly  1,740,000 cases, with 106,469 deaths worldwide.

The United States, as of 7 a.m. HST, stands at 506,188 cases.   Deaths in the U.S. attributed to COVID-19 now number 19,701.  But officials have said that does not count many people who have died at home, undiagnosed, but who surely had COVID-19.  The U. S. has surpassed Italy as having the most deaths in the world.

The country also accounts for nearly 30 percent of the world’s known cases,  about 500,000 out of more than 1.7 million, although all these figures are probably too low due to a general scarcity of Coronavirus testing and suspect reports from such countries as China.

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard collects data from health departments and confirmed media reports worldwide and updates frequently.
