State adds 11 new cases–Hawaii County, 0 new

As of noon on Thursday, April 16, the State Department of Health says 11 new cases were confirmed since Wednesday–with none new reported for Hawaii County or Kaua’i. Of the 541, 374 have been released from isolation, meaning there are 167 active cases of COVID-19 known in the state.  Ten of the new cases are Hawaii residents, one is not.

For Hawaii Island, the count remains at 41, with 30 released from isolation.  The Hawaii Island statistics indicate none have required hospitalization, but State Department of Health Director Bruce Anderson confirmed on Tuesday, in response to a reporter’s query, that one of the COVID-19 victims associated with the outbreak at McDonald’s at Kona Commons and at Walmart was taken to O’ahu for hospitalization.   In a Wednesday conversation, State Department of Health said they were trying to determine whether to put the hospitalization as a Hawaii Island hospitalization, since it is a Hawaii Island victim, vs list the hospitalization as O’ahu, since the hospital is on O’ahu.  Anderson also confirmed that 4 Hawaii Island first responders were also in quarantine because they were exposed to one of the people infected as part of the McDonald’s outbreak.

Oahu has 373 total cases, with 284 released from isolation.   Maui County has 93 cases, with 44 released from isolation.  Kaua’i has 21 cases, with 16 released from isolation.  Five cases in total are not assigned to a county, yet (4 of them today).  Six residents of Hawaii were diagnosed elsewhere, and are on the below chart.

A previous release today from State Department of Health indicated the number of hospitalizations per island:  Oahu, 37; Maui County, 7; Kaua’i, 1; Hawaii Island, 0.

There were no new deaths.  So far, O’ahu has had 6, and Maui County, 3.
