State adds 6 for 580; county adds 1 for 62 (27 active) **updated 1:39 p.m.

The Hawaii State Department of Health had some good news about the advance of COVID-19 in the state, with only 6 new cases confirmed between noon on Saturday, April 18, and noon on Sunday, April 19, bringing the State’s total to  580.

But the bad news is that Hawaii has suffered one new death from COVID-19, bringing the death total  to 10.  The individual was an adult male from Washington state in the 40-59-year age group who had no previous medical conditions and a history of travel. He had been hospitalized for an extended period in serious condition at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Hawaii Island has added one to its count, with 62 cumulative cases.  State DOH figures say 35 have been released from isolation, so according to DOH there are 27 active cases.   The Department of Health reports there have been a total of 30 confirmed cases associated with a cluster of cases among McDonald’s restaurants in Kailua-Kona, up one case from Saturday. The new case is an employee at a third McDonald’s located at 75-5729 Kuakini Hwy. That location has voluntary closed at this time, so all three Kailua-Kona McDonald’s are closed. The total now includes 18 employees and 12 household members. DOH is conducting contact tracing for new cases and continuing to monitor employees and family members, all of whom are in isolation or quarantine. The DOH investigation of cases is ongoing.

Today’s statewide total includes 385 cases on Oahu, 104 in Maui County, 62 on Hawaii island, and 21 in Kauai County, according to health officials.  The number of hospitalizations statewide is reported at 52.
