State DOH says Kona has 3 COVID clusters

State Director of Health Bruce Anderson said on Monday during Governor David Ige’s COVID-19 media update that there are three COVID-19 clusters in the Kona area of the Big Island.

The McDonald’s cluster  has 36 people,  19 employees and 17 family contacts. All are associated with the McDonald’s on Makala Blvd. at Kona Commons, the one in the Kona Walmart, and the one at Kuakini and Kalani (Hamburger Hill).

Anderson said there is one family in Kona with 4 family members with COVID-19.

Anderson said today’s sole positive addition to the state’s number is an adult male in Kona, part of a third family cluster, which appears to be a couple both infected.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Big Island is 75, according to the State’s latest release, with 63 active cases.
