There were 23,530 more cases in the US reported this morning than on Saturday morning. For the past week, the country has been reporting between 19,000 and 30,000 new cases.
President Trump said this week that deaths in the U.S. may reach 95,000 or more.
Hawaii has had single digit increases for two weeks, and two days ago had no new cases reported. Yesterday there were 3. Governor David Ige and Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim are allowing businesses to reopen, gradually, but state and county officials emphasize it’s required to wear masks in stores (unless under 5 or with a medical condition that prohibits it), maintain physical distancing, and continue hand washing and cleaning of surfaces. Lt. Gov. Josh Green, M.D., says this is the way to keep Hawaii’s case count low and manageable, and to ensure our hospitals can handle any cases that arise.
The Harvard Global Health Institute says Hawaii is one of 9 states to have exceeded test minimums which Harvard says is necessary to understand the spread of the disease in a community.
