Two new COVID cases on O’ahu

There are 2 new cases of COVID-19 on O’ahu, one adult and one minor, according to the State Department of Health’s noon report.  That brings the state’s total to 634, with 561 released from isolation.   Both of the new cases cases are  travel-associated. It is critical for all those who return from essential travel to stay in mandatory 14-day self-quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The death toll stands at 17,  11 on O’ahu and 6 in Maui County.

Hawaii Island’s case count remains at 75, with 74 released from isolation.  O’ahu now has 410 cases with 376 released from isolation.  Maui County has 117, with 92 released from isolation.  And Kaua’i has 21 cases, with 20 released from isolation.

The State House Select Committee on COVID-19 Economic and Financial Preparedness met Monday morning to discuss what’s needed to move forward with a defined program to reopen businesses.  The state has  met White House guidelines to reduce cases for 14 days.  The Committee includes Governor Ige’s business navigator, Alan Oshima, Gen. Kenneth Hara of HIEMA (Hawaii Emergency Mangement Agency), Carl Bonham of UHERO (University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization, Dr. Mark Mugiishi of HMSA, and others.   They have worked to develop a comprehensive plan with benchmarks and guidelines for allowing businesses to reopen and stay open.  The plan also has guidelines on what to do if  COVID-19 cases increase.

Nationwide, cases as of noon Monday stand at 1,345,307  and deaths are now at 80,239.

Includes cases that meet isolation release criteria (Isolation should be maintained until at least 3 days (72 hours) after resolution of fever and myalgia without the use of antipyretics OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset, whichever is longer). (The cases that have died and one case that has left the jurisdiction have been removed from these counts).

One case is a Lanai resident whose exposure is on Maui Island and who will be remaining on Maui Island for the interim.
