US approaches 100,000 deaths, but trend stable–and Hawaii County is reopening

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 7:32 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  5,360,841    Worldwide deaths:  343,364

U.S. cases:  1,632,721    U.S. deaths:  97,424

Although cases in the U.S. continue to increase–by just over 21,000 between yesterday and today–and deaths increased yesterday by 945–that’s fewer cases and deaths than in previous days.  And in New York, the epicenter of cases and deaths in the U.S., Governor Andrew Cuomo said deaths on Saturday were the lowest in two months, at 84.

In Hawaii County, Mayor Harry Kim late Saturday joined the other 3 mayors in issuing a rule to allow restaurants, hair salons, and churches to reopen June 1, subject of course to COVID-19 precautions intended to keep the island’s COVID-19 count low and manageable–wearing masks when with others, and staying 6 feet apart, and distancing from others.
