Don’t forget: tax deadline is July 15

Remember April 15, the usual tax deadline?  Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline was postponed until July 15, 2020, and the deadline for filing Hawaii State taxes was pushed back to July 20, 2020.  And those dates are approaching.

The IRS reminds taxpayers that if they cannot file their 2019 taxes by July 15, they may ask for an extension until October 15.  But those who owe money must pay it by July 15, whether or not they file their taxes by this date.  For detail, click here.

Local accountants said their business now is as busy as it is before the normal filing deadline of April 15.  The July 15 federal returns or requests for the automatic extension until October 15 must be postmarked no later than July 15.

The IRS also announced that it is way behind in processing paper returned filed already, and urges any future returns to be filed electronically.
