Case increase in US below 40K in a day but nearly 130K have died

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Sunday morning, July 5, at 5:33 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 11,317,637      Worldwide deaths:  531,729

U.S. cases: 2,852,807    U.S. deaths:  129,718

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide cases increased by 176,617 in the last 22 hours, and 4,082 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported.

According to the Dashboard, the United States has added 35,187  cases in the last 22 hours, and deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 143.

The reported increase in cases in the U.S.  is the lowest in several days.  But several states have been experiencing surges in recent days–with 37 states showing an increase in cases.  On Saturday Florida announced its largest daily case increase ever at 11,000, and on Sunday Florida authorities said they’d catalogued 9,999 cases since Saturday.  Around the world, countries are reopening but some are being forced to pull back.   In Australia,  around 3,000 people were put back into a lockdown after Melbourne had a spike in cases.
