According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide cases increased by 223,376 in the last 24 hours, and 5,112 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported.
According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 63,089 cases in the last 24 hours, and deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 954. The country’s daily case count has continued to increase, with each day bringing a new peak.
Health officials in the United States continue to be concerned about the rise in cases. Although many of the latest cases are in young people, less likely to have serious impacts, part of the concern is that the cases may spread to those more vulnerable.
In Hawaii, which has a relatively low number of cases at 1,130, with 840 released from monitoring isolation, Gov. David Ige and the four county mayors are debating how and when to reopen the tourism economy. The state has had double-digit increases for most days of the past week, peaking at a high of 41 new on July 7. Although that is low compared to the rest of the U.S., health and government officials are trying to figure out how to balance the critical need to reopen the economy and still protect the health of everybody in the state.
