State adds 19 COVID cases, no new known in Big Island residents

The state has 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.  Despite having at least 4 known cases in connection with a cluster at Kona Community Hospital — 3 workers and 1 person who visited the Emergency Department last week — the Big Island shows no increase in cases over the 107 cumulative for yesterday.  Today, the State Department of Health says there are 10 active cases on the island.  Hawaii County Civil Defense says one person is hospitalized, and a total of 4 people have been hospitalized on the Big Island for COVID-19.

O’ahu shows 16 new cases, bringing that island’s case count to 1,002.

Three of the cases are marked as “pending” meaning the State DOH did not receive information where those people live.  Their numbers will be assigned to the proper county as soon as DOH gets the information from the laboratory.

Statewide, the total is 1,311 with 975 released from isolation and monitoring by State DOH.  Of these, 21 are Hawaii residents who are out of state.  There have been 22 deaths, but no new since last weekend.

Hawaii County Civil Defense is including a reminder in its messages that mask wearing is mandatory on Hawaii Island in all businesses, and anywhere where people cannot physically distance from each other.
