State has 23 new cases, 1 death, Big Island adds 2 cases

Hawaii has added 23 new cases of COVID-19.  The state’s cumulative case count is 1,334, with 994 released from monitoring and isolation.  One additional person on O’ahu has died from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 23.

One Hawaii resident out of state is in today’s count.  Neither Kaua’i nor Maui County have any new cases.

Hawaii Island has added 2 cases, bringing the island’s cumulative total to 109.  According to State Department of Health’s noon report, 11 people on the island are still being monitored with active cases.  At this point, State DOH has not released any information about the latest cases.  However, it is known that at least 4 cases are related to the outbreak that began at Kona Community Hospital, with 3 employees confirmed to have tested positive and at least one community member.

All hospital employees and patients are being tested for COVID-19, and Kona Hospital has been calling those who are known to have been in the hospital from July 8 forward, to tell them they may have been exposed and should get tested.

Hawaii County Civil Defense is including a reminder in its messages that mask wearing is mandatory on Hawaii Island in all businesses, and anywhere where people cannot physically distance from each other.
