U.S. death toll up by 1,195, as U.S. COVID cases plateau

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Tuesday, July 28, at 5:35 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 16,540,137    Worldwide deaths: 655,300

U.S. cases: 4,259,667   U.S. deaths: 148,298

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide cases increased by 213,921 in the last 22 hours, and 5,335 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 49,563 cases in the last 22 hours, and reported deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 1,195.

The number of cases in the U.S. has been going down slightly, with some days last week more than 60,000.  But the deaths in today’s count in the U.S. are greater than usual.  Health officials have said that as more people become hospitalized, some deaths will follow.  But many of the current cases are in younger people, under 60, who are less likely to need hospitalization.
