HOPE Services, County team to offer rent/mortgage help

If you have experienced a loss in income due to COVID-19, you may be eligible for one-time emergency financial assistance for rent or mortgage up to $2000 per household.

This program is only available to residents of Hawaii County who are 18 years and older, have decreased income because of COVID-19 (ie layoffs, illness), have no more than $5,000 in liquid assets, and aren’t already getting benefits under Section 8 of the Housing Code.  This program is open to those with total household income  at or below 80% Area Median Income.  Click here for the chart that details the income requirements.

This program is a partnership between HOPE Services Hawai’i and the County of Hawai’i’s Office of Housing and Community Development, and is funded by a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds. Payments will be made directly to the landlord, bank or mortgage company.

Get more details and the online application form by clicking here or apply by calling 808-935-3050, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.  No in-person appointments will be scheduled because of COVID-19.
