The State Department of Public Safety has continued testing inmates and staff for COVID-19, mostly at O’ahu Community Correctional Center. Four additional inmates and two additional staff tested positive for COVID-19, out of 50 inmate tests and 49 staff tests.
For the Big Island prisons:
Hawaii Community Correction Center–30 inmates have been tested, 1 result is pending and 29 are negative, 1 person is in medical isolation pending their result, and 49 inmates who were in close proximity to that person are in quarantine until results of the testing come back
Kulani Correctional Facility– 1 tested, 1 negative

The State Public Defender’s Office has asked the State Supreme Court to release prisoners because of the threat of COVID-19. The Supreme Court Justices have asked City and County Prosecutor Dwight Nadamoto for more information by noon on Monday before they rule on the request.
